Beginner

Lessons will be geared towards helping the student understand the basics of their instrument.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Properly assembling the instrument
  • How to produce a sound
  • Tonguing
  • Most major scales
  • Understanding basic theory (notes, time signatures, clefs)
  • Reading musical notation
  • Duets

Instruction Books

  • Rubank Elementary Method (saxophone, clarinet, flute)
  • Standard of Excellence - Book 1

Intermediate

Lessons will be geared towards advancing the students ability to play more challenging music and gain further understanding and control of their instrument.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Improved sound quality
  • Dynamic control of instrument
  • All major scales
  • All minor scales
  • Articulation (staccato, legato, tenuto, slurs, ties)
  • Sight reading skills
  • Duets
  • Listening homework
  • Ability to play at a grade 2-4 solo level

Advanced

Lessons will be geared to help the student play in professional settings and/or prepare for college auditions.

  • Full command of the instrument
  • All major and minor scales with extended range
  • Duets
  • Harmonic progression
  • Reading and understanding chord symbols
  • Transcription
  • Ability to play at a grade 5-6 solo level
